English Classes (Multilingual Learners)

Due to the demand for classes, students enrolled must be residents of Scarborough. New students may be placed into an appropriate MLL class after completing an intake meeting and a reading assessment.

MLL classes (formerly called ELL classes) are for speakers of other languages who wish to learn MLL English or improve their English language skills.

Intro to Healthcare with EnGen (Online)
with EnGen Online

For students wishing to advance reading skills to 238 for entrance to CNA, we recommend co-enrolling in Personal Support Specialist(PSS) training and/or Multilingual Learners(English) classes if needed, and a structured EnGen class.
You will need an internet connection, a device to study with EnGen, be 18 years of age or older and eligible to work in Maine. Please call 207-730-5040 to register.

Math for HiSET

We will work on strategies to approach and solve word problems and to review higher level mathematics necessary to advance to the official math exam.

HiSET Preparation Lab

HiSet Preparation Lab
This class helps you to prepare to take each of the five HiSET tests with extra emphasis placed on math and writing instruction. Students work at their own pace and Official HiSET testing is available on a weekly basis when you have successfully completed study and Practice testing.

Prosperity and Good Fortune: Chinese Wonton Dumplings
with Jeff Mao

We will make Chinese dumplings with pork filling made from scratch in class. You will learn the multiple styles of folding dumplings using wonton wrappers. Then we will boil the won ton to make a classic wonton soup or chili oil wonton. Additionally, we’ll learn to make our own Sichuan-style chili oil and learn about other common Chinese condiments used for dipping sauces. All ingredients, materials, equipment and recipes will be provided. Registration Fee: $72 [Plant-based ground meat can be substituted for the pork upon request. The dumpling wrappers include gluten.]

Bio: Jeff Mao is a published cookbook author (Essential Chinese Hot Pot Cookbook) and cooking instructor. He also operates a micro bakery in Brunswick where he produces hand-rolled New York bagels. Find him on his website, Kneadandnosh.com.

Landscape Pastel Painting (ZOOM)
with Christopher Reed

This class will help students to find their own way of expressing themselves in chalk pastel using different landscape photos. Gestural painting, layering, and blending are a few of the techniques that will be explored. Open to those with previous pastel painting experience in addition to beginners. A brief meditation will help in letting go and trusting the creative process. A supply list will be provided when the class is determined to run.

Start Writing: A Quick Intro to Creative Writing

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate Guitar
with Mike Shannon

Advanced beginners and intermediate players will learn the chords, skills, and techniques for starting their guitar-playing journey. Learn how to strum simple tunes and make the most of your practice time. An acoustic guitar and picks required, and an electric tuner and capo are recommended.
