English Classes (Multilingual Learners)

Due to the demand for classes, students enrolled must be residents of Scarborough. New students may be placed into an appropriate MLL class after completing an intake meeting and a reading assessment.
To register for classes, please call Yvonne Wentz 207-730-5007 or email ywentz@scarboroughschools.org for an appointment.
MLL classes (formerly called ELL classes) are for speakers of other languages who wish to learn MLL English or improve their English language skills.

Intro to Healthcare with EnGen (Online)
with EnGen Online

You will need an internet connection, a device to study with EnGen, be 18 years of age or older and eligible to work in Maine.
Cost: FREE
For students wishing to advance reading skills to 238 for entrance to CNA, we recommend co-enrolling in Personal Support Specialist(PSS) training and/or Multilingual Learners(English) classes if needed, and a structured EnGen class.
Math for HiSET

We will work on strategies to approach and solve word problems and to review higher level mathematics necessary to advance to the official math exam.

HiSET Preparation Lab

HiSet Preparation Lab
This class helps you to prepare to take each of the five HiSET tests with extra emphasis placed on math and writing instruction. Students work at their own pace and Official HiSET testing is available on a weekly basis when you have successfully completed study and Practice testing.

Landscaping 101 – A Mini Course for Beginners

Are you a do-it-yourselfer who wants to give your yard a simple makeover or design a new garden? Do you need to add curb appeal to the house you are getting ready to put on the market? Or do you simply want to enjoy enhanced beauty in your backyard?
In this class, you will learn how to assess your needs, evaluate your site, come up with a plan, and select the right plants.

Beaded Bouquet and Candle-Making Workshop
with Jenn Candlewood

Join Jenn from Candlewood to make a beautiful fresh spring-scented 12-ounce candle and one gorgeous beaded mini bouquet. You will enjoy a night of fun personalizing your candle, choosing your scents, and crafting a unique bouquet no one will believe was crafted by you! Artificial flowers are handmade using acrylic beads and metal wire. They are perfect for daily use and can be placed indoors and outdoors as a stunning eye-catching centerpiece decoration. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
with Sallie Albert

Students enrolled in this certificate program complete 140 hours of classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience, meeting all state licensing requirements. Upon successful completion of the course and passage of the State Competency Exam, students will be eligible to enter the healthcare field under the direction of a licensed nurse. Students must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or the equivalent, and have a CASAS Reading score of 238 or above.

Personal Support Specialist (PSS)
with Deborah Gile

This 50 hour course prepares participants to work in home health care or residential settings. Personal care, communication skills, observing, reporting and documentation will be taught. How to provide care safely and deal with emergencies, consumer rights, aging and illness are additional topics that should be covered in the class. CASAS Reading scores of 220 or above are required. Students must be 18 years of age or older and be eligible to work in Maine.
