We have contracted with a college and career counselor to offer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator online. After you have completed your MBTI profile and Strong Interest Inventory you may schedule a session with the counselor to review your results and to discuss options for post-secondary education and your career goals. Designed to assist adults who have a high school credential with the college application process and to provide academic assistance for a successful college experience.

You may be eligible for:

• Registration fee waivers for college applications

• One-on-one college and career counseling

• Access to tours and college planning events

• Study skills assistance/Preparation for Accuplacer Testing

Contact Joan Tremberth or Carrie Peabody for an Intake Session and we will walk you through the process and schedule you for counseling and Accuplacer Testing at Scarborough Adult Education.


Our Partner Programs

Scarborough Adult Learning Center has partnered with Bonny Eagle, Gorham and Westbrook  Adult Education programs to offer classes designed to prepare students for entry into college. This year we are also combining classes for South Portland and Scarborough students at our location for the classes listed on page 15. Offerings will vary by site, but the participants in our College Transitions program may enroll for classes at Adult Education at any of these following sites:

How Colleges Really Choose Students

Get the inside information! High school students and parents: This workshop will help you navigate the sometimes complex process of applying to college. What are colleges really looking for as they review admissions applications? What distinguishes a great application from a good one? How much does the interview really count? What essay topics are on the “admissions-don’t” list? High school students in any grade will benefit from this informative and entertaining presentation. Get an inside look at the college admissions process and get your questions answered. Wendy spent 30 years in the admissions field at boarding schools and liberal arts colleges including twelve years as Assistant Dean of Admissions at Bowdoin College (2000-2012). She offers this workshop as a free community service.

If you are looking to get your skills up to par for entry into college then we can help. This class will cover from basic numerical skills to deciphering Algebra. We will cover formulas, equations, polynomials and graphing while focusing on real world applications. You will finish prepared for a college level Algebra class. The Accuplacer (College placement exam) will be given at the beginning and end of the semester.

Please bring a USB flash drive. There will be assignments to complete after each class to reinforce learned skills.
