Learn to strum simple tunes and how to make the most of your practice time. Open to adults and high school students 16 years or older. Acoustic guitar and picks required. Electronic tuner and capo highly recommended.

Exploring Frontiers of Energy Healing: What is Sound Healing?

New! Sound has been used in cultures for thousands of years as a tool to promotephysical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Whether using tuning forks, rhythmic drumming, crystal bowls, mediation bells, chanting, or one’s own voice mantras – sounds can have relaxing and restorative effects. Learn a little about the history of sound healing and its wide range of therapeutic benefits. Receive a brief introduction to the chakra system, and how it corresponds to certain sounds and parts of the body. Learn simple ways you can use sound to restore balance and create relaxation in your everyday life. This workshop will be an opportunity for attendees to experience the soothing and healing sounds of crystal singing bowls to promote deep relaxation. Bring: a pillow and reclining beach or camp chair for added comfort. Deborah is a spiritual psychotherapist, past-life regression therapist, and crystal, sound healer with a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master’s Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology; she is co-director at the Spiritual Renaissance Center.

We’ll also cover the C-A-G-E-D system to aid you in navigating the fretboard. Acoustic guitar, capo, and picks required. Open to adults and high school students 16 years or older. Learn Irish Whistle

New! The sounds of the Irish whistle evokes everything from the excitement of Irish dance music to more haunting, emotion-filled melodies. Cover the basics of playing the whistle including basic reading of music, breathing technique, tonguing and fingering, and get the tools to, with practice, master this simple wind instrument. Learn to comfortably and properly hold and play the whistle; develop positive practice habits that are easily transferable to other instruments and disciplines. By the final class you’ll be playing along with simple slow tunes, and well on your way to learning more complex tunes on your own. Once this class has been determined to run, has enough registrants, students woudl be asked to bring a cylindrical-bore whistle pitched in the key of D (no conical whistles like Clarke or Shaw) and be ready to have some fun! Dave is a professional Maine folk artist/singer song writer with 15 critically-acclaimed recordings and a career that’s spanned 28 years. He currently serves as choir director for the Universalist Church of Auburn and is a traditional music performer in his duo,The Squid Jiggers.
